Chlamydia

”It should be obvious to be tested for mycoplasma.”

Now I encourage all my friends to get tested too

”Last summer I was with my friends at one of the many summer music festivals. The whole week was great with perfect weather, good bands and partying. On one occasion I had unprotected sex, which I regretted, but I tried to let it go and after awhile I didn't think about it any more.

A few months later I noticed that something was not as it should be and I went to the youth clinic to be tested for chlamydia. Several of my friends had been infected previously, so I knew you could get help – and that it didn't cost anything to be tested. The test showed that I was not infected, so I thought maybe I was imagining things. But the itching and pain remained and I went back, but this time too the test showed negative.

I started looking for information on the Internet and I quickly found articles about mycoplasma, which is called the “new sexually transmitted disease”. It turned out that the symptoms for mycoplasma and chlamydia are almost the same. Now I went for a third time to the youth clinic and asked to be tested for mycoplasma. After some pressure I finally got to do a test. When the sample results returned a week later, it turned out that I had mycoplasma. After treatment with antibiotics I was finally rid of my symptoms. So the discomfort I'd had for several weeks was completely unnecessary! Now I tell all my friends, so that they will also ask to be tested for mycoplasma if they end up in the same situation.”
