About our chlamydia test
Chlamydia, caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis (C. trachomatis), is the most common sexually transmitted infection in Sweden. Each year about half a million tests are performed, of which about 7 % are positive.
Getting more people to test themselves and thus reduce the spread of chlamydia is important both for the specific individual and from a social-economic perspective. With our chlamydia test, we help reduce the spread of chlamydia and free up healthcare, so that the first to make contact are those who need care and treatment. Mycoplasma is another sexually transmitted disease that has become increasingly common. Because chlamydia and mycoplasma produce similar symptoms we also offer a combined test which gives a quick answer on whether the sample is infected with mycoplasma and/or chlamydia.
Cooperation with county councils and health centres
We offer different cooperative opportunities in which we tailor solutions for each customer. The concept covers the entire chain from sampling kits and method of analysis to performing analysis and distribution of analytical results. We currently collaborate with Apoteket AB, with tests available in their stores sold under Apoteket's brand and Swereco AB where tests are sold under the brand YesNo. We also have a solution for health centres, meaning that the medical centre can use the chlamydia test and send the samples to our accredited laboratory for analysis.
As secure as existing medical tests
Our chlamydia test is as safe as existing medical tests but easier for the patient to perform. The CE-marked sampling kit contains sampling material, instructions and return packaging. The test is simple to take at home and then send to our accredited (ISO/IEC 17025) and quality-assured laboratory for analysis. For maximum safety, we offer vaginal samples for women and urine samples for men. 24 days after the sample arrives at our laboratory the result can be accessed on our website with a personal code. We can also report the test results in other ways, such as through our partners websites.
Unique and safe method of analysis
The Dynamic Code method for detection of the bacteria C.trachomatis is based on PCR. The objective sequence is found in the genome as well as in the plasmid. Dynamic Code uses a methodology of analysis which covers any newly arising mutations in the bacterium. The analysis results have high certainty.
Follow-up for positive results
Dynamic Code ensures that patients who receive positive results make contact with medical care for treatment and contact tracing. To secure the identity of the person who submitted the test, they provide their name and ID number and sign the enclosed package insert when the sample is sent for analysis. Patients who receive a positive response also get a referral to bring to the medical centre. The receiving doctor informs Dynamic Code when contact is made. If this does not occur, we will send a reminder to the patient. If contact has still not been made after a second reminder we will send notification to the Infectious Diseases Unit in the relevant county. Because chlamydia is subject to the Swedish Diseases Act we will report all positive cases to the Swedish Infectious Diseases Institute (SMI).
Patients who receive a negative response but still have symptoms are encouraged to take a new test as well as test for other sexually transmitted infections such as mycoplasma, which has similar symptoms. We have both a separate test for mycoplasma and a combination test where mycoplasma and chlamydia are analysed in the same sample.

Quality and security
The Dynamic Code method for detection of C. trachomatis is based on PCR. In a validation study of 414 samples in which the Dynamic Code method was compared with the PCR kit from Qiagen for species Chlamydia trachomatis, the results showed 99.7 % specificity and 100 % sensitivity.
Analyses in the Dynamic Code laboratory are accredited under ISO/IEC 17025 and reviewed by the Swedish Board for Accreditation and Conformity Assessment (SWEDAC)
For external ongoing quality control Dynamic Code participates in the United Kingdom National External Quality Assessment Scheme, Chlamydia detection (molecular).
Sampling kits are CE marked according to IVD Directive 98/79/EC as well as the MDD directive 93/42/EEC and in addition to future legislative changes.
Studies have shown that the method used is secure and instructions for the chlamydia test are clear and safe when it comes to taking the sample correctly, sending the sample and obtaining the results. Overall, this creates certainty of 99.5 %.
The chlamydia test is registered with the Swedish Food and Drug Administration.
Procedures involved in the chlamydia test are coordinated with the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare.
