In order to know if you suffer from skin fungus, you must be tested. Our test for skin fungus can give a quick answer on whether flaky, itchy or cracked skin is caused by dermatophytes. In medical care a diagnosis is made primarily through direct microscopy or fungal culture in the current situation. Dynamic Code has developed a test that detects species within the genus Trichophyton, Microsporum and Epidermophyton by PCR.

Our test for skin fungus is simple to perform. The sampling kit contains sampling material, instructions and return packaging. The test is done by the patient themselves, taking a skin sample at home and sending it to our quality-assured laboratory for DNA analysis. For testing the patient must have access to a pair of nail scissors. The result of analysis is obtained via our website with a personal code within 3 days after the sample is received at our laboratory.
Background of our test
Skin fungus is caused when filamentous fungi attack the skin. Four species, T. rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, M. canis and E. floccosum, cause more than 90% of dermatological infections in Sweden and the most common species is T. rubrum. Foot fungus is a common occurrence, up to 20% of the adult population are afflicted (Swedish Food and Drug Administration). With skin fungus one often gets flaky skin, sometimes bursting forth and exuding itself. Itching can also occur. Athlete's foot can often be treated with prescription drugs. With severe affliction, systemic prescription treatment may be needed.
Unique method of analysis
The methodology for Dynamic Code’s test is based on PCR. Several research groups have shown that the PCR methodology compares favourably with both microscopy and fungal culture to diagnose nail and skin fungus (Brillowska 2007, Garg 2009 Kondori 2010). Dynamic Code has developed a method that detects multiple species within the genera Trichophyton, Microsporum and Epidermophyton, including detection of T. rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, T. verrucosum, M. canis, M. audonii and E. floccosum.
